BBB: Qualification Questions
Before filing a complaint with BBB you should contact the business at least once to give them an opportunity to resolve the issue. However, you are not required to contact the business first. If the issue cannot be resolved directly with the business, then you may file a complaint with the BBB

Notice: You may be required to complete and return a waiver if the business is asked to share or comment on confidential consumer information. Examples include complaints against medical, legal, or financial offices.

When you submit a complaint to the BBB you accept and acknowledge that you are doing so according to the policies and terms of the BBB. The BBB may refuse to process or discontinue a complaint at its sole discretion. No information given to you by the BBB should ever be construed as legal advice. Please consult a licensed attorney to obtain legal advice. The BBB does not take sides in a dispute and makes no promises or predictions as to the outcome—our role is to open the lines of communication. 

Does your complaint allege a criminal act?
Is this a discrimination complaint?
Is your complaint regarding matters that are currently in or have already gone through the court process?
Does your complaint concern employment practices - examples may include issues regarding pay/wages, hours, or safety?
Is your complaint about a government agency (Federal, State or Local)?
Does your complaint concern issues regarding the competency of a licensed professional – examples may include issues regarding the quality of medical or dental care.
Is your complaint based solely on dissatisfaction with a price?
Is your complaint against a private individual? - or does it concern a personal transaction – examples may include complaints against an individual that does not own or operate a business?
Does your complaint concern the collection of a debt – examples may include a complaint requesting that the BBB retrieve payment for services performed?
Was your purchase made more than 1 year ago or is it outside the terms of a warranty or guarantee?
Do you simply want to make others aware of your experience?
Does your complaint involve a personal injury claim?
Are you solely seeking an apology from the business?
Is your complaint attempting to change an adequately disclosed store policy?
Is your complaint asking the BBB to file a lawsuit, have someone fired, shut down a business or revoke a company’s license?
Is your complaint anticipating an issue or a problem that has not yet occurred? Ex. A consumer seeking compensation for a future problem that has not yet occurred.
